PART – I   TRADITIONAL LANGADI

CHAPTER-I

GROUND

  1. Field (Ground):
  2. a) Langadi ground is square in shape (ABCD)
  3. b) Groups: U/12 (Cadet), U/14 (Sub Junior), U/18 (Junior) & Open (Senior)
  4. c) Dimensions of the ground for various groups is as follow’s

U/12 (Cadet) & U/14 (Sub Junior)                     : 9mt X 9mt

U/18 (Junior) & Open (Senior)                            : 11mt X 11mt

  1. d) The area marked in the lobby at the Centre & Parallel of the side line (AD) of the Field -1 (ADFE) & with distance of 0.50 mt. away with a dimension 1 mt. in length and 1 mt. in width is known as ENTRY ZONE for ATTACKER (WXYZ). The area marked at both the corners of the line (AD), measuring 4 mt. in length and 1 mt. in width is known as ATTACKER’S ENTRY ZONE (QRTS)&(Q1R1T1S1).
  2. e) The area marked at both the corners of the line (BC), measuring 4 mt. in length and 1 mt. in width is known as DEFENDER’S ENTRY ZONE (MNOP)&(M1N1O1P1).
  3. f) Width of each line should be around 3cms. to 5cms, outside of the plying ground.
  4. g) The field essentially is Mud(soil), wooden flooring, Green Lawns, Mat (With Shoe) and it should be levelled, even and tough enough to play. The ground should be plane and without any hurdle.

CHAPTER-II

DEFINITIONS

  1. LANGADI -The foot of any leg touched to ground and the other being kept in air folded with a further action of hopping for catching an Active Defender is called as LANGADI
  2. ATTACKER – The player who ready to attack the Opponent is called as ATTACKER.
  3. ACTIVE ATTACKER – The players who attack the active defender with a view to put them out at the same time scored points is known as ACTIVE ATTACKER.
  4. DEFENDER – The player who ready to Defend the Opponent is known as DEFENDER.
  5. ACTIVE DEFENDER – The Defenders who are inside the Field for their turn of defence are known as ACTIVE DEFENDER.
  6. TOUCHING THE HAND – When Active Attacker touches any part of his body, other than active foot to the Field to any person inside or outside Field, with or without intension then it is called as TOUCHING THE HAND.
  7. TOUCHING THE LEG – In the field if an Active Attacker touches his leg or any part of his leg, other than the foot by which he is performing Langadi to the ground or any person is called as TOUCHING THE LEG.
  8. CHANGE OF LEG – In the field if an Active Attacker changes his foot and starts playing Langadi on the other foot is called as CHANGE OF LEG.
  9. PERFECT LANGADI – Starting Langadi from ATTACKERS ENTRY ZONE, without violating any rule by an ATTACKER is called PERFECT LANGADI.
  10. ATTACKERS ENTRY ZONE – The area marked in the lobby at the centre & parallel of the side line (AD) of the Field-1 (ADFE) and with distance of 0.50 mt away is known as ATTACKER ENTRY ZONE.
  11. DEFENDERS ENTRY ZONE – The area marked at both the corners of the line (BC), with distance of 0.50 mt away is known as DEFENDERS ENTRY ZONE
  12. CENTRAL LINE – The line which divides the Ground in Two equal parts is called as CENTRAL LINE (EF)
  13. FIELD – The two equal rectangular parts of Ground made by Central Line is called as Field. Rectangle near to ATTACKERS ENTRY ZONE is FIELD -1 (AEFD), other rectangle near to DEFENDERS ENTRY ZONE is FIELD- 2 (EBCF)
  14. END LINES – Boundaries of the Ground is known as END LINES.
  15. OUT OF FIELD – When Active Defender touches any part of his body to the End Lines is known as OUT OF FIELD.
  16. SIMPLE BODY TOUCH – When the Active Attacker touches by his/her palm to the Active Defender is called as SIMPLE BODY TOUCH.
  17. RETIRED – If the Active defender by his/her own wish raising the finger up and goes out of the field, then it is termed as RETIRED
  18. TO GIVE OUT – When the Active defender is touched by an Active Attacker by touching his/her (palm) hand without violating any rule or if defender goes out of field, then he/she shall be declared out by a short blow of a whistle and is called as TO GIVE OUT
  19. LATE ENTRY LINE – Dotted Line from Centre Line in Field 1, marked between GH is called as LATE ENTRY LINE.

CHAPTER III

RULES OF THE GAME

  1. A) For National level tournament each team consist of 12 players. Actually playing 9 players and 3 players’ substitute. Less than of 9 players not allowed to play.
  2. B) For International Tournament each team consist of 15 players (all other rules are applicable as per 01(a)).
  3. C) For international tournament each team consist 6+2+C+M=10 Members. Rules for this combination is under constructions.
  4. Attacking time each player will get one chance to perform Langadi. When all present players of the team perform langadi before then their turn will get over. If time is over and the left of the attacker not able perform langadi.
  5. Toss will be done by Match Referee. He will call both the captains and ask one of them to select Head/Tails. The captain who wins the toss will raise his right hand and immediately select Attack or Defence. Winning Captain will indicate this by pointing finger.
  6. Captain will be from 12 player’s team. It is not required that he should be in playing team.
  7. Attacker shall start Langadi from Attacker Entry Zone.
  8. If the above Rule No, 05, is not obeyed by any Active Attacker then he should be given foul and ask him/her to Re-start Langadi again from the Attacker Entry Zone. If and an Active Attacker even after declaring foul continues his Langadi then no defender shall be given out.
  9. Active Attacker shall not touch any part of his body to ground except active foot on which he started Langadi. Also, he/she shall not be allowed to touch other part of his body, if it happens, Active Attacker shall be asked to withdraw from performing further Langadi.
  10. The Active Attacker shall not be allowed to change his leg on which he started Langadi. If he does so he/she shall be asked to stop from performing further Langadi.
  11. Both teams shall attack in First Inning by Right Leg and 2nd Inning by Left Leg, In 3rd Inning by Right Leg. If match goes on 4th Inning (Sudden Death) than both teams can use their strong leg for attack.
  12. Active Attacker is allowed to go out of the Field but he/she has to obey all the rules. Attacker shall not be allowed to put OUT any Active Defender from outside the End Lines but he/she is allowed to continue his Langadi.
  13. When a new batch of Defenders entered in the Field Active Attacker must be in Field- 1. If he/she is not in the given situation then Active Attacker has to go to Field-1. After that he/she should enter Field -2 and is allowed to Attack New Batch of Active Defenders.
  14. A) Except Active Attacker no other Attacker shall enter the Field. If any such Attacker gets inside the Field, then he/she shall be expelled out immediately. Until Enter attacker in the Field is not going out, Umpire shall not give any Defender OUT.
  15. B) After his/her performance of Langadi, Active attacker on become a lame Chaser. He/she should move out of the field immediately.
  16. C) New Attacker shall not be allowed to chase the active defenders till he/she leaves the field.
  17. Active Defender shall not disturb or obstruct Active Attacker. If he/she purposely obstructing Active Attacker, he/she will be given out.
  18. Active Defender once OUT will enter the Field, when his turn comes again in that Inning.
  19. Active Attacker shall not violate the Rule Nos. 5, 10 & 11. If he does so the Defender shall not be given OUT due to violation of Rule.
  20. When Active Defender is touched by an Active Attacker by his palm without violating any rule then the Active defender shall be given out. Explanation- If Active Attacker touches Defender other than the palm then Active Defender shall not be given out.
  21. Active Defender shall not disturb or obstruct Active Attacker. If he/she does so then Umpire shall show Yellow Card to the Active Defender. Even after warning or if any player misbehaves in such a grave manner, then Umpire shall show Red Card and if he/she is an Active Defender declare him as OUT or if he/she is Active Attacker would end his Langadi Turn. Also, he shall be punished for misbehaviour by not allowing to play in further match. in critical situation, the technical committee will take the decision.
  22. Late Entry-
  23. After getting batch out, new batch of defenders will enter in the field- 2. If an Active Attacker crosses L Line (GH) and if defenders fail to enter in the field 2, then those defender/s who have not entered will be given out as Late Entry.
  24. If next batch does not enter field 2 before active attacker crosses L Line and return back to Filed 2. then that batch should be given as late entry.
  25. This process of late entry continues, then referee will be taking disciplinary action against that team.

CHAPTER  – IV

RULES REGARDING MATCHES

  1. Each team will consist of a Manager, a Coach and 12 Players. 12 players will be named for a match 9 players shall take the Field in the beginning.
  2. Each Match will consist of 2 Innings. An Inning will consist of an Attacking & Defending Turns:

U/12 & U/14((Cadet& Sub Junior) 5-3-5, 4, 5-3-5) 30 minutes

U/18 ((Junior& Open (Senior) 7-3-7, 6, 7-3-7) – 40 minutes

  1. Coach/Manager of Attacker / Defending team shall name the extra players before the commencement of the match.
  2. At the beginning of a turn, 3 Defenders shall be inside the Field for Defence. Immediately after these 3 Active Defenders being declared OUT, the next 3 Defenders shall enter the Field. If one of the Defender from the batch or Full batch of 3 Defenders failed to enter in Field – II, before Active Attacker crosses the L Line (GH) then Defender or full batch will be given out, as LATE ENTRY.
  3. The Defenders who entered Field early shall not be given out but simply called back to their respective Defender Entry Zone.
  4. Sequence of Defenders can be changed till its entry in the Field from Entry Zone. Once defender enters in the field then for that turn he cannot change his sequence.
  5. Sequence of Attackers can be changed till its entry in the Field from Attackers Entry Zone. Once Attackers enters in the field only one time in one turn.
  6. As and when 1st Defender of batch is out, the next 3 Defenders must enter in to Defender Entry Zone.
  7. Defender once entered in the field shall not change his batch till the end of that turn. Defender shall enter in the Field from Defender Entry Zone. Referee shall have option to declare Defender/s out, who has/have not entered the field from Defender Entry Zone (Same Sequence Defender Batch).
  8. Turn shall be over when all 9 Active Attackers of the team performed Langadi and become out or Time of the turn is over.
  9. Points can only be scored by Attacking team when an Active Defender gets out.
  10. The Active Attacker side shall score ONE POINT for each Active Defender getting out. If all Active Defenders become OUT before the completion of Turn Defending Team shall maintain the same order of Defence. Order of Defender shall not be changed during a turn.
  11. a) The captain of the Attacking team shall have option to end the turn at any time
  12. b) Captain should inform to the Chief Referee by showing turn closer symbol to stop the turn.
  13. c) Turn will not close Until the Chief Referee has signal to stop. Attacking team should not leave the field until the turn is closed by Chief Referee. if team left the ground before closer declaration of match it will a misbehaviour.
  14. If a Match is not completed for any reason:
  15. a) it shall be continued further at same session with the same players and the same officials. The completed Turns score of each side shall be counted, the match will be played for incomplete turn.
  16. b) If the incomplete Match is not possible to play in same session, then entire match will be played again with new officials and players in next session.

            Time for a Session will be as follows:

Session – I Morning (Sunrise to 2:00pm)

Session – II Evening (4:00pm to End of the day)

  1. After completion of 1st Inning if the points of a side (who Attack first at the starting of the match) exceeds the points of other side by 9 or more then former side shall have the Compulsory of requesting the later side to follow on its turn as Attacker without forfeiting its own right to take its turn as attacking afterwards, in case other side exceeds its score. (If the deference is 9 points, then it Optional. Above 9 points its compulsory).
  2. In the knock-out matches the side that scores more points at the end of the match shall be declared as winner. If the points are equal one more inning (one turn for each side as Attacking and Depending) shall be played. (Before the start of Extra Inning a minimum rest of as the rule is to be given). If again the points are equal, an additional inning shall be played on minimum Attack basis as follows; Chief Referee shall start the turn of this additional Inning. As soon as the first point is scored the turn shall be closed by the Chief Referee at the same time, he shall stop the stop watch simultaneously. The time for scoring of this first point shall be noted. The side that takes less time to score this first point shall be declared as winner of the match. The Chief Referee shall stop the stopwatch if the time exceeds more than 10 seconds than recorded time of the opponents) If again it is a tie this process shall continue till the winner is decided.
  3. In the League system the winner shall score 3 points and looser shall score “0” points. In case of a tie each team will get 1 point. If there is an equal point in the pool, the concerned teams in the group will replay the knock-out match or matches after drawing lot. But if it is not possible to conduct match/Matches for some unavoidable circumstances then match/matches can be played in MINIMUM ATTACK BASIS.
  4. When one Active Attacker puts off his Langadi the next Attacker shall not enter as an Active Attacker on the field till previous Attacker leave the Field square. If it happens and the next Attacker enters the field the umpire would ask the Attacker to go back to Entry Zone and to start Attacking again. In this situation if Attacker puts out any defender, he/she shall not be given out.
  5. Any number of substitutions shall be allowed by the Chief Referee on the request of Coach or Captain. The substitution For Attacking /Defending is allowed only before they enter the ENTRY ZONE.

CHAPTER – V

OFFICIALS FOR THE MANAGEMENT OF MATCH (AUTHORITY DUTIES &RIGHTS)

  1. The following officials shall be appointed for the Management of a match. ONE MATCH REFEREE-1, UMPIRE-1, UMPIRE-2, TIME KEEPER, SCORER-1 & SCORER -2. Total officials for the Match 06.
  2. The officials of the match shall be appointed by the Referee Board.
  3. Match Referee: – The Match Referee shall perform following Duties:
  4. a) He shall check Score Sheet, Ground, Match Officials and Nails of the players (Leg & Hands) shall not be grown. etc. and would take toss before starting the match. He shall help the umpires to perform their duties and shall give his final decision in case of any dispute in them.
  5. b) If a player intentionally obstructs the conduct of the play or behaved in an ungentlemanly or mischievous manner or intentionally violates any of the rules, The Match Referee shall at its own discretion penalize by warning card, the defaulting players. The penalty shall range, according to the default from warning a defaulting player till to forbid the entire team to participate in future play of the match.
  6. c) He/ She shall announce the warning by calling the Chest No. of Active Defender or Active Attacker and showing a “Yellow” card. It shall be recorded by the Scorer by marking the chest number in warning column. He/she shall announce the forbiddance from the participation in future play in similar way as warning but showing a “Red” card. This will also be recorded by the Scorer by making ‘R’ against the chest number in defence column. Such a player shall be immediately Expelled and asked to leave the arena. For the on-going match referee showing Red Card to Active Defender his/her called Out of the Field but that turn going on, in that time no replacement. Till Full turn Over.
  7. d) Use of warning cards:
  8. i) if Referee Shows yellow card twice in a consecutive match it is treated as Red Card, player will be banned for that match.
  9. ii) if Referee Shows Red card directly, that player will be banned for that and next match.

iii) If Red card shown to full team, that team will be disqualify from the tournament.

  1. e) He shall observe the sequence of Defender and Attackers entering in the field.
  2. f) He shall synchronize his watch that of Time Keeper & shall check the time after each turn.
  3. g) He shall check the scores of the sides at the end of Attacker entering in the Field & each turn. also, he shall have to announce the result of the match.
  4. h) He shall start and end the turn of a minimum chase (tie breaker) turn.
  5. i) After the start of the match if any of the officials becomes unable to further officiate in any given turn, the remaining officials shall manage the officiating, till the end of the turn. If the official is unable to resume the work, he shall be replaced by a new official.
  6. j) The Coach and Manager shall sit at the place provided for them. They shall not be allowed to give instructions make derogatory remarks on officials, persistent addressing to officials concerning their decisions, deliberate coaching during the game from outside the Field. If they do so, Referee shall show them Yellow Card even then they continue to behave in the same manner, Referee shall ask them to leave the arena.
  7. Umpire – I & Umpire – II
  8. Umpire – I & Umpire – II shall move in the Lobby and shall conduct the game
  9. For any reason, if he enters the field, he shall come back to the lobby immediately without obstructing the progress of the match.
  10. He/she shall give decision and also help the other umpire to give correct decision with use of umpire’s signs and blow of the whistles.
  11. If match referee becomes unable further officiate in any given turn the umpire – I shall manage the officiating till the end of the turn. If the match referee unable to resume the work he/ she shall be replace by a new Match Referee official send by Referee Board Committee.
  12. Time Keeper
  13. The Time Keeper shall start the turn by blowing a long whistle followed by a short after getting direction from the Referee.
  14. He/she shall declare the end of the turn by blowing a long whistle.
  15. He/she shall enter the lobby and declare the completion of each minute of play loudly by raising his arm holding an indicator.
  16. Scorer

Scorer – I

  1. When Scorer – I, announce the defender and attacker numbers in that time Score – II, shall write in Score Sheet.
  2. At the end of the match, he shall tally the scores of the two sides and prepare the result of the match.
  3. He/ She shall get the score sheet duly signed by all Officials.
  4. After completing the Score Sheet, he/ she shall hand it over to the Referee for checking and declaration of the result.

Scorer – II

  1. He/ She shall note down and check the names& numbers of the players.
  2. He/ She shall enter the sequence of Attackers (playing order) when entered in Entry Zone. Sequence of Defender when entered in field.
  3. He/ She shall call the numbers in the defending batch of Defender when it enters the field.
  4. When Attacker Standing at attacker zone in that time check the Perfect langdi do or not. If not, then blow the foul whistle and attacker call back. Support to the ground Officials for make the Decision.
  5. Type of Whistles
  6. Start of Match -One Long One Short whistle
  7. End of the Match- Long whistle.
  8. Foul -Continuous beep of short whistle
  9. Out- One short whistle
  10. Uniform: Men/Boys shall wear Half Pant, T-shirt/ Banyarn Women/Girls shall wear Frock or Half Pant/ shirt or T- shirt.
  11. Players are allowed to play without shoes or are allowed to play with Canvas Shoes having plane bottom. On Wooden Ground players are allowed to wear light weight Sports Shoes.
  12. Officials shall wear Authorized Uniform of their respective Association.
  13. Each player shall be numbered in front and back of his T-shirt/Shirt with number of solid colours contrasting with the colour of the T-shirt. The number shall be printed or stitched of size 10cms. high and 2cms. wide in front side. 20cms. high and 2cms wide on the back. Lesser size will be treated as misbehaviour. The number shall be printed from 1 to 12. Players of the same side would neither be allowed to wear duplicate numbers nor change their dress during a tournament/ championship. If need arise Referee shall allow change of Chest Number.
  14. During the Game, a player may address the Match Referee only through the Team Captain.

CHAPTER-VI

PLAYING EQUIPMENT FOR A MATCH

  1. 3 to 5 mm diameter 50meter long string.
  2. 30 mts. Measuring Tape (Steel)
  3. Stop watches (two in each ground) calibrated in seconds.
  4. 1to8 time placard having size 30 cm. X 40 cm.
  5. Score sheets & Entry forms.
  6. Red & Yellow warning cards.
  7. Chalk Powder or material required for ground marking.
  8. Tables & Chairs on ground for officials, Players & Manager.
